Emily Hsu

Emily Hsu is an Assistant Professor in the Rucks Department of Management at Louisiana State University's E. J. Ourso College of Business. She received her Ph.D. in Business Administration (Organizational Behavior Area) from Washington University in St. Louis in 2026.

As a mixed-methods, phenomenological researcher, Emily strives to address research questions that embody both timeliness and timelessness. At its core, her work is driven by an interest in what makes us fundamentally human—our emotions and social nature—and how these shape the ways we connect, collaborate, and navigate the ever-evolving workplace and broader society.

She is particularly drawn to topics related to the interpersonal dynamics of emotions, from phenomena such as emotional whiplash and affective convergence to discrete "social" emotions such as shame and nostalgia. Emily is also fascinated by digital technologies (e.g., AI) and the future of work, such as hybrid/remote work and changing expectations around performance (i.e., strategic underperformance, quiet quitting). Other interests include workplace relationships, trust, conflict management, and group/team dynamics.

Emily currently teaches MGT 3513 – Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, a required course in the undergraduate curriculum of the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Outside of her academic activities, Emily can be found watching musicals and Broadway shows, exploring museums, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
