Earth Week
LSU Campus Sustainability hosted its second annual Earth Week at LSU from April 20 through April 25, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and community members to celebrate environmental awareness and sustainability efforts across campus. Throughout the week, participants took part in a variety of free, hands-on events designed to promote waste reduction, conservation, and community involvement. Activities included creating reusable bags from old T-shirts, goat yoga on the Parade Grounds, campus beautification projects for Earth Day, an Earth Day Science Resource Fair with LSU Libraries, Arbor Day tree planting, and the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Love the Boot Cleanup. Earth Week provided opportunities for the LSU community to learn, volunteer, and contribute to creating a more environmentally responsible campus while highlighting the importance of everyday actions that make a lasting impact.
Love The Boot Clean Up
LSU is a proud affiliate of Keep Louisiana Beautiful and actively participates in the organization's annual Love the Boot Week each April. During this statewide initiative, LSU organizes litter cleanups and beautification projects that engage students in making a positive environmental impact both on campus and throughout the Baton Rouge community.
Through these volunteer efforts, participants help protect local ecosystems, improve the appearance of public spaces, and contribute to a culture of sustainability at LSU. By partnering with community organizations and engaging student volunteers, LSU demonstrates its ongoing commitment to keeping Louisiana beautiful and fostering civic engagement beyond the classroom.

Spring Greening Day
Spring Greening Day is an annual half-day service project dedicated to beautifying and enhancing the LSU campus through the creation and expansion of green spaces. This hands-on volunteer event brings together students, faculty, staff, and community partners to improve the campus environment while promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship.
The addition of green spaces across campus provides numerous benefits, including improved biodiversity, enhanced stormwater management, increased habitat for pollinators and other wildlife, and a more inviting campus landscape. These projects also contribute to student well-being by creating greener, healthier spaces that support outdoor recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature.
Over the years, Spring Greening Day volunteers have transformed several areas of campus by planting trees, shrubs, and native vegetation in locations such as Memorial Tower, the Greek Amphitheater, and the Student Union. Most recently, volunteers focused their efforts around Himes Hall, where approximately 5,000 native plants were installed to enhance the landscape and support Louisiana’s native ecosystems. The use of native plants helps create resilient green spaces that require less maintenance, conserve resources, and provide important habitat for local pollinators and wildlife.
Spring Greening Day serves as an opportunity for the LSU community to make a tangible impact on campus while learning about sustainability, native landscaping, and environmental responsibility. This event is made possible through valuable partnerships with Keep Louisiana Beautiful, LSU Auxiliary Services, and RCI, whose support helps advance LSU’s commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable campus for current and future generations.
